Development kit leads way to open source networking
The OpenThread Sandbox development kit from Dialog Semiconductor is now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. As a complete development platform for OpenThread, an open source implementation of the Thread networking protocol, the Sandbox development kit provides developers with plug-and-play hardware and OpenThread software to help design connected home, Internet of Things (IoT), and automation applications.
The development kit contains all the components required for developers to get started designing Thread-based networks. The Thread protocol is a low-power, IPv6-addressable, self-healing mesh network with advanced security implemented at the networking layer.
The protocol provides secure, distributed short-range radio frequency (RF) networks for the IoT market and connected products for wireless industrial applications.
The development kit comprises a USB- or coin cell battery-powered hardware development board based on Dialog’s Thread-capable 802.15.4 SmartBond system-on-chip (SoC), which can be accessed over UART and JTAG with no additional external hardware.
In addition, Dialog’s SmartSnippets software development kit (SDK), as well as software tooling and documentation in the kit, provide an ideal environment to contribute to OpenThread software development available through the GitHub repository.
