EEA shortlist: Pickering Interfaces
Pickering Interface’s MEMS-based PXI/PXIe RF multiplexer family has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the Test & Measurement Product category.
The first PXI/PXIe MEMS-based RF multiplexer (MUX) modules on the market, this new RF MUX family delivers vastly increased operational life (up to 300x), faster operating speed (up to 60x) and higher bandwidth (with no reduction in RF power handling) versus traditional EMR (electromechanical relay) alternatives, while insertion loss also remains comparable with EMR switches and much lower than solid-state.
This new range of RF multiplexer modules from experts in modular signal switching for electronic test & verification, Pickering Interfaces introduces new MEMS-based switching technology to replace traditional EMRs and deliver a step change in performance – delivering 300x operational life and 60x test system throughput.
The family features Ideal Switch MEMS technology from partner, Menlo Microsystems, which are among the first commercial MEMS switching components with the performance characteristics to support demanding RF test environments such as semiconductor, consumer wireless devices, and various S-band applications (including mobile services, satellite communications, and radar).
The 40-878 (PXI) and 42-878 (PXIe) are 50Ω 4 to 1 RF multiplexers. To accommodate varying sizes of test application, the 40/42-878 range is available with single, dual, or quad 4-channel multiplexers, all occupying a single PXI or PXIe chassis slot, providing flexibility in chassis selection and minimising slot count. The 4x-878 is also supported in Pickering’s LXI/USB Modular Switching chassis, allowing the use of a PXI-, LAN-, or USB-controlled switching solution with the same high levels of performance. The module is offered with either SMB or MCX connectors, allowing users to select the most suitable interface for their applications, and Pickering provides a full range of cabling solutions.
