BLDC motor gate driver drives six N-channel MOSFETs
Capable of driving six N-channel MOSFETs, the MCP8024 is a new three-phase BLDC motor gate driver with power module which has been introduced by Microchip Technology. Featuring functions powering dsPIC Digital Signal Controllers functionality and PIC microcontrollers, as well as improved performance and high robustness, the MCP8024 offers increased efficiency, lower system cost and accelerated time-to-market.

Operating over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +150°C (H-temp), the new motor gate driver can be used in harsh environments, such as automotive under-hood applications. With a wide voltage range of 6V to 28V and withstanding transient voltages up to 48V, the MCP8024 features an adjustable step-down DC-to-DC converter to power a broad range of microcontrollers. Italos offers the efficiency benefits of a switch-mode power supply. It provides high-integration analog functionality including three current-sensing operational amplifiers, an over-current comparator, MOSFET drivers and a bidirectional communication interface for a complete motor system design.
In order to increase flexibility, the BLDC motor gate driver features configurable driver dead-time management, driver blanking-time control, and Over-Current Limit for external MOSFETs. Supplied in thermally enhanced 40-pin QFN 5 mm x 5 mm and 48-pin TQFP 7 mm x 7 mm packages, the MCP8024 is well suited for a broad range of applications in the automotive market, such as HVAC blowers and pumps, and the industrial market, including fans, motion control and robotics, among others.
Microchip has also announced support for the MCP8024, due to be available on December 20, with the MCP8024 TQFP BLDC Motor Driver Evaluation Board (Part # ADM00557, $99.00).
The MCP8024 is available now for sampling and volume production, for $2.61 each, in 10,000-unit quantities.
