AMD to power AI-based smart parking solution
AMD has announced that Sun Singapore Systems Pte. Ltd., a provider of smart parking solutions in Singapore, is deploying a new AI-driven smart parking system powered by AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC devices.
This solution enhances vehicle license plate recognition accuracy and introduces advanced features such as parking spot vacancy detection, lane jam monitoring, accident detection, and parking violation enforcement.
“With our focus on durability, low latency and flexibility, the AMD FPGA-based Edge AI solution, with its proven ability to support complex calculations on large amounts of data, was the right choice for us,” said Eddie Ng, Senior Sales Manager, Sun Singapore. “The adaptability of the new edge AI solution will also allow us to deliver new applications to improve car parking system features and services for our customers.”
“PlanetSpark is committed to driving sustainable innovation with our Green & Agile solutions, providing unmatched energy efficiency and performance at the Edge,” said Ms. Phuay Li Ying, Managing Director, PlanetSpark. “We are delighted to work with AMD on this solution, which will bring significant improvements to the Smart Parking market.”
The new AI-based system from Sun Singapore integrates PlanetSpark’s EdgeAI Box X7, which is equipped with FPGA-based AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs. Aupera Technologies contributed to the design and development of FPGA firmware and AI vision solutions, ensuring precise license plate recognition. This setup delivers low latency, energy efficiency, and real-time AI inferencing at the edge. FPGAs are particularly suited for Edge devices due to their long lifecycle and hardware flexibility, allowing them to adapt to new AI models, algorithms, and evolving standards.
Currently, most electronic parking systems in Singapore rely on technology that is over 20 years old and lacks AI inferencing capabilities, limiting their functionality. The new AI-based solution will significantly upgrade these systems, enabling advanced reporting for car park operators through AI-generated data.
With AMD's latest technology, Sun Singapore's system achieves a 99% accuracy rate in license plate reading and includes updated features for parking spot detection and parking violation enforcement. This comprehensive solution positions Sun Singapore to offer an all-encompassing smart parking system.
“Sun Singapore and PlanetSpark exemplify the power of AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC’s ability to enable access to sensor fusion applications,” said Chetan Khona, Senior Director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare and Sciences Markets, AMD. “By processing data from a variety of inputs, customers can leverage AI to enhance processes we take for granted across a variety of applications, be it smart city, manufacturing, robotics, and beyond.”
