Zytronic launches new controller offering enhanced functionality for ultra large form factor PCT™ touch sensors
Zytronic, the leading developer of Projected Capacitive Technology (PCTTM) touchscreen products for public and industrial applications, announces the launch of a new addition to its range of touch controllers designed to enhance user experience in ultra large format applications. The ZXY100/128 controller can support touchscreens greater than 50 inches (127cm) across.
DeveThis new addition to the ZXY100 family of controllers shares the same architecture, increasing speed, accuracy and sensitivity, and provides a platform for innovative touch features that add extra value to Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications. At the heart of all ZXY100 controllers is a 32-bit ARM® microprocessor containing Zytronic’s proprietary firmware, driving faster touch detection and enhanced responsiveness in both direct touch and through-glass sensing modes. Working together with the powerful processor is a custom designed ASIC which incorporates the multiplexing functionality of a number of analogue components, and contributes to the small footprint of the controller. An on-board Flash memory also enables in-field firmware updates to be performed. Zytronic will also offer the chip set to customers for integration of the PCT touch sensor controller onto their motherboards in higher volume or space-constrained applications.
The ZXY100/128 is fully compatible with all of Zytronic’s PCT touch sensors, including ZYPOS®, ZYBRID®, ZYTOUCH® and the flexible ZYFILM® and ZYPROFILM® sensors. PCT touch sensing comprises an array of micro-fine capacitive sensing elements which are embedded within a variety of durable substrates providing protection to the sensing matrix. A unique feature of PCT is its ability to operate behind thick protective glass overlays, enabling highly reliable, functional and versatile touch interfaces in outdoor or demanding public-use applications, with proven solutions already in action worldwide including information kiosks, vending & ticketing systems, interactive digital signage, medical displays, industrial PCs and ATMs.
Customers using the Windows7 operating system have the choice of installing Zytronic’s fully configurable driver (UPDD) or using the basic in-built Microsoft® touchscreen driver (HID). Upon request, Zytronic will also release the controller output protocol for those customers wishing to write their own application-specific touch drivers and interfaces.
The 128-channel ZXY100/128 joins two other controllers in the range, which were introduced earlier in 2010. The smallest, a 32-channel unit, can be used with 5-19 inch (13-49 cm) sensors; the midrange, 64-channel controller is designed for 20-50 inch (50-127 cm) PCT sensors. All models are available with either USB or Serial connectivity.
