Timesys Launches Timesys University Program
Timesys Corporation (http://www.timesys.com), provider of award-winning embedded Linux solutions and expert Linux support, today announced the launch of 'Timesys University,' a series of educational tracks designed to help developers shorten the learning curve associated with building embedded Linux projects.

A hands-on lab to create BSPs/SDKs using Timesys products and technologies with popular processors/boards,

The Timesys University program kicked off with the first track, titled 'Building a connected home automation device with the Digi ConnectCore™ Wi-i.MX51 using LinuxLink.' Using a garage door opener as the 'home automation device,' attendees of this track used Qt Embedded for Linux to design a UI based application and then integrated GPIO attached LEDs and Bluetooth® functionality. This enabled them to use a WIIMOTE to simulate the use of Bluetooth enabled remote accelerometer sensors and control the state of the garage door opener when the WIIMOTE was flipped. Via video, attendees of this track were able to see first-hand the results in action. The instructor was excellent and conveyed the subject of the seminar extremely well, stated Loai Najjar, Timesys University track one attendee.
The first Timesys University track wrapped up in early-April with a giveaway drawing. Timesys partnered with Digi International and awarded one lucky attendee a ConnectCore Wi-iMX51 Development Kit.
Currently, two additional tracks are planned:
Track two — 'Building an Internet Radio with the TI Sitara™ AM3517 using LinuxLink' will begin May 12
Track three — 'Building a Rich User Interface based Medical Device with the Freescale i.MX53 using LinuxLink' will commence in late June.
Each track will consist of four, 60-minute sessions, delivered bi-weekly. Students will use Timesys LinuxLink tools to complete the tasks shown by the instructor. Registrants who attend three or more sessions of track two will be entered into a drawing for a Logic PD Zoom™ AM3517 EVM Development Kit.
The Timesys University program is ideal for developers who want to design and build an open source, embedded Linux product, said Maciej Halasz, Director of Product Management at Timesys. The program will introduce developers to Timesys LinuxLink tools and demonstrate how open source technology can be harnessed to build an embedded Linux based product. And, it will expose best practices for reducing risk and minimizing cost.
