SiTel Semiconductor today announced that a solution combining its SC14452 Green VoIP processor and Rhea VoIP software suite has been formally validated with BroadSoft’s latest BroadWorks release (Release 16). This validation by BroadSoft proves that systems based on the SC14452 processor and the Rhea suite work properly with the BroadWorks SIP interface. As a result, developers of such systems can be confident their products will operate seamlessly with the vast majority of VoIP servers.
Together, SiTel’s SC14452 second-generation Green VoIP processor and Rhea VoIP software platform form a complete hardware / software solution for developing robust VoIP applications. Thanks to SiTel’s proven multi-core architecture, the SC14452 delivers 240 MIPS of processing power and in-call power figures below 600 mW for a typical VoIP desktop phone application. It supports up to four concurrent wideband and narrowband IP channels, and includes a dedicated cryptography engine.

The software component of the solution, Rhea is a mature and versatile software platform based on the industry-standard µCLinux operating system. It includes a dual IPv4/v6 networking stack, plus a SIP stack and user agent. It also provides an extensive range of pre-developed applications such as automatic provisioning, a web server, user interfaces and media applications. The Rhea VoIP platform is available from SiTel on a license-free, royalty-free basis.

“SiTel is one of the few chipset suppliers capable of delivering complete hardware and software solutions for VoIP applications. This validation of our Rhea suite by the suppliers of the world’s leading VoIP server software means our customers can be confident the products they develop using our solutions will work perfectly in the field. That in turn maximizes market opportunities for system manufacturers and ease of use for end users,” said Mark De Clercq, Product Marketing Manager at SiTel.

“As a leading supplier of VoIP server software BroadSoft is committed to bringing end users the best and most natural experience possible when using this exciting new technology,” said Leslie Ferry, BroadSoft’s Vice President of Marketing. “We are pleased to confirm that SiTel’s devices and device firmware have successfully completed our SIP interface conformance validation. SIP offers a secure, flexible and easy to use way for residential devices to interface with the web and this validated interoperability ensures new SiTel Semiconductor-based VoIP products are fully interoperable with our server solutions.”
