Sentec, the smart grid specialist and product development company, has been recognised with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation. This is the second year in a row that the company has been honoured with a Queen’s Award.
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation, which recognises continual innovation and commercialisation, was awarded to Sentec for its Sterling technology. The Sterling technology is at the heart of both the Sensus iPerl smart water meter, currently being rolled out in the US and the Aquiba A200 smart water meter aimed at the Australian market.

Smart meters are the next generation of utility meters. Offering superior metrology data, smart meters provide more accurate and detailed information on usage of water, gas and electricity. This allows for flexible payment tariffs which measure consumption over specified time periods; accurate forecasting energy demand at different times of the day; and leak and service outage detection.

Last year Sentec received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category in recognition of Sentec’s exceptional growth over the last three years, during which period the company more than trebled its overseas earnings to £4.3m.

Earlier this year Sentec also won the Entrepreneur Country Green Award, recognising its contributions to the clean energy sector and its technology partner, OnStream, recently received the Metering Manufacturer & Technology of the Year Award, and the Innovation of the Year Award, at the European Smart Metering Awards.

Mark England CEO commented “We’re proud to be recognised with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation. It’s a well deserved reward for the team, and we’re delighted that this is the second year in a row we’ve been honoured with a Queens Award. The team has worked very hard to produce an innovative design that appeals to global markets.”

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are divided into International Trade, Innovation and Sustainable Development. The Award Scheme, originally known as The Queen’s Award to Industry, was instituted by Royal Warrant in 1966 following the recommendations of a Committee chaired by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
