RTX and SiTel obtain Green Communication Technology funding from Eurostars Programme

This new energy-efficient wireless platform is part of a large-scale R&D project based on the standardized development of ultra-low power technology (ULP) for wireless applications, which is being conducted jointly by SiTel Semiconductor BV and RTX Telecom A/S.
The main objective of developing this flexible, power optimized platform is to reduce energy usage by wireless communication devices. The R&D project distinguishes itself from other initiatives within the field by focusing on aspects related to both the amount of energy needed per transferred bit and the energy used during device standby. With this new power optimized wireless platform, RTX and SiTel take the initiative to provide green solutions that address the increasing demand for applications such as intelligent control of white goods, security installations, intelligent fire alarms, and body-worn healthcare devices for remote patient and elderly monitoring.



The R&D project initiated primarily focuses on the residential market for home automation, also known as “domotics” however, this green wireless platform can also be utilized for industrial, healthcare, and enterprise applications.



Jesper Mailind, CEO, RTX Telecom A/S, states: ”Receiving funding from Eurostars for the development of this new communication platform is regarded by RTX as validation of the need for energy-efficient wireless solutions for the telecom and domotics ecosystems. We expect ULP to be a major growth opportunity in the near future, and RTX is committed to remaining a leader in this area in the coming years.”



Peter van Wely, CFO, SiTel Semiconductor B.V., states: “At SiTel we understand the need for more sustainable ‘greener’ communication technologies, and continue to drive down the energy requirements for cordless voice and data applications. Working with the Eurostars Programme and the additional funding, will give a real boost to realize the potential of ULP technology in Europe. We are convinced that this technology will bring significant benefits to home and building automation as well as the healthcare environment”.
