RS Components (RS) has strengthened its global linecard by agreeing a deal with Intel for the distribution of a range of the company’s computing and embedded development products. The agreement opens the door to a wide selection of Intel products direct, targeting numerous applications and Internet of Things (IoT) based projects.

Key Intel or Intel-based products available from RS include the complete Intel Edison development platform and the Intel Compute Stick, as well as various other devices including Intel Atom processor-based single-board computers and a range of Intel Solid-State Drives that offer densities from 64GB up to 1.6TB.

“Intel is a global technology leader and an increasingly important player in embedded development technologies,” said Fred Knowles, VP Product Management at RS Components. “This new global distribution agreement means that Intel technologies are now easily available at the touch of button via the RS website for fast delivery from our global warehouses.”

The Intel Edison platform includes the ultra-small Intel Edison compute module, the Intel Edison breakout board for rapid prototyping, and the Intel Edison board for Arduino.

The Intel Edison module is a highly miniaturised product-ready compute module that uses an advanced 22nm System-on-Chip including a dual-core dual-threaded 500MHz Intel Atom CPU and a 100MHz 32-bit Intel Quark microcontroller.

The platform also integrates Wi-Fi and low-energy Bluetooth Smart connectivity as well as device-to-device and device-to-cloud connectivity framework for IoT application development.

The Intel Compute Stick can transform any HDMI monitor or TV into a fully functional computer preloaded with Windows 10.

The device provides the same OS, high-quality graphics and wireless connectivity as a full-sized computer with ample speed and storage, but is much lower cost and very small, with dimensions of only 113 x 387 x 12mm.

“We are excited to see RS Components bring innovative Intel products and technologies to a broad set of global customers,” said Rod O’Shea, General Manager, EMEA Direct and Channel Sales at Intel. “Empowering innovators, makers and entrepreneurs is a priority for Intel and enabling easy access to these technologies is an important step.”

The Intel Edison development platform and Intel Compute Stick, along with a wide range of other Intel products, are now in stock at RS distribution centres worldwide.
