Renesas plans to expand production of MCUs, its core business, and further strengthen its number one position in MCU market share worldwide. In particular, the company aims to supply the most desirable and cost competitive products to the Chinese MCU market, which continues to grow, and use them as a driving force to further increase market share. Against this background, work on the new building has been proceeding in order to enable RSB, an MCU back-end facility, to meet growing demand.

Plans call for operations to commence at the new RSB building within FY2010 (ended March 2011). When operation is underway, the production area of the plant will be expanded by approximately 60%, from the current 18,000 m2 to 29,000 m2. Production at RSB, consisting of MCUs, mixed-signal devices, etc., is expected to increase substantially, growing from the current output (January 2010) of approximately 65 million units per month to some 100 million units per month by the end of FY2010.

Using the newly expanded RSB, which will be one of the world’s largest MCU back-end facilities, as a base, Renesas Technology will continue to strengthen its MCU business and its China business in general.
