Plextek, the Cambridge-based electronics and communications design consultancy, has become a supplier within the 3rd iteration of the UK MoD's Framework Agreement for Technical Support (FATS 3). Plextek's broad range of services can now be easily accessed by the MoD and other government departments and organisations including the Home Office, Metropolitan Police Service, Forensic Science Laboratory, Meteorological Office and HM Revenue and Customs.

FATS 3 provides a more efficient contractual route for the MoD and other departments to procure technical support through pre-agreed contract terms and rates. The framework will make it faster for government departments to draw on Plextek's expertise in broad capability areas including computing technologies and mathematical techniques; information and signal processing technology; electronic warfare systems and DEW technologies; integrated systems technology; communications and CIS related technologies; manufacturing processes/design tools and techniques; and business processes.

Colin Smithers, Managing Director at Plextek commented: Plextek has vast defence experience spanning numerous successful projects, and 12 months ago we set up a specialist Defence Group to help raise our visibility in the supply chain and help strengthen relationships with the MoD. Becoming a FATS 3 supplier is a great step forward for the Group. The simplified contracting mechanism cuts out a lot of laborious paperwork and will help us generate more business and build initial projects into bigger follow-up work quickly, simply and efficiently.
