Silica is today launching its design competition, Pedal4Innovation, open to all engineering students at UK universities from 1st October to 30th November with the winning three students each securing £3000 towards their tuition fees.
Pedal4Innovation kicked-off back in May 2012 when a team of cyclists from Silica and its suppliers pedalled 450 miles across the UK. En route the team visited universities and raised in excess of £36,000 for the P4I competition as well as supporting the Neuroblastoma Alliance and Alzheimer’s Research UK. In the second phase, Silica is giving the future generation of UK electronic engineers the opportunity to win one of three scholarships, equal to £3,000 each.

Laurence Dellicott, EMEA Director of Field Applications, one of the driving forces behind the event, commented, “Our visits to some to the universities during Pedal4Innovation demonstrated that there is a great pool of engineering talent within the UK. At Silica we want to support and nurture that talent and see that it realises its full potential. The P4I design competition is all about making that happen and I can’t wait to see the innovative entries as they come in.”

Registration for the competition opens on October 1st and design entries must be complete by 31st March 2013. To enter participants should download the Pedal4Innovation Development Board Catalogue, choose up to three boards to work with, write a short design proposal and fill out the registration form. Entrants will be given six months to develop an innovative solution/idea using the three boards within their innovation pack. A judging panel made up of Silica and its suppliers will announce the winning designs/scholarship holders in April 2013.
