Huawei announced the deployment of their 40G Optical Transport Network (OTN) solution for PCCW, Hong Kong' s premier telecommunications provider and a world-class player in Information & Communications Technologies. This new network, using Huawei's OTN solution, enables PCCW's customers to enjoy premium service via higher bandwidth and more flexible service grooming features.
The 40G OTN network will adopt a series of state-of-the-art technologies, including 80-wavelength 40G, ROADM (Reconfiguration Optical Add/drop Multiplexer), and optical and electrical cross-connection and grooming. These elements allow bandwidth per wavelength to increase by 400% and total transport capacity to jump to 3.2 Terabit, enabling the transmission of 700 DVD files per second. The network also enhances the transmission capabilities of bandwidth-hungry services, due to optical and electrical cross-connection technologies.

Christian Chua, president of Transport Network Product Line,Huawei, stated, The increasing maturity and mass commercial use of 40G efficiently mitigates bandwidth pressures stemming from mass services. We are confident that Huawei' s 40G OTN solution will enable PCCW to address service development challenges and cater to future service needs.

As a leader in the transport field, Huawei is committed to providing carriers with premium WDM/OTN, MSTP/MSTP+, microwave, and submarine series products and end-to-end transport solutions. Huawei delivers innovative WDM/OTN products and is focused on developing network-based WDM technologies.
