Omron Electronic Components Business Europe (OCB-EU) will exhibit its broad range of optical communications devices at ECOC 2007, Stand 12055/Hall 12. Visitors to the stand will see the world’s smallest CWDM Multiplexer/ Demultiplexer devices, Optical Switches, Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology and PLC Splitter Modules.
Omron will display its P1X4, P1X8A CWDM Mux/Demux devices, the world’s smallest mux/ demux solutions for metro edge, storage and access networks, including GbE and passive optical network (B, E, G-PON) applications. Measuring only L 14.5 x W 7.2 x H 4.7 mm in size, the devices enable designers to realise very small form factor mux solutions in their products. They also offer ultra high reliability due to reduced number of parts and less complex active alignment processes during manufacture.

The components utilise a single-sided fibre array helping minimise space needed for mounting and fibre routing/ bending radii. At the heart of the mux structure is an internal proprietary 2-P MLA, which provides precise “angled-path” optics of both the incoming and outgoing wavelengths.

Alongside the mux/ demux devices will be Omron’s family of P1S12-B and P1S22-B; 1x2 and 2x2 Single Mode Optical Switches. The products utilise “Precisely Arrayed and Combined Solutions” (PACS) fine replication and micro optics technology, including a MLA for cost efficiency and high performance.

The P1S12-B and P1S22-B feature a reduced typical insertion loss of just 0.8db and have working wavelength ranges to 1290 – 1360nm and 1530 – 1625nm. Use of replicated parts, including a magnetic mechanism together with a “VW” mirror system allows Omron to realise a proven, high reliability optical switch in a compact package size (L 31.6 x W 12.6 x H 8.4 mm).

In addition, Omron will demonstrate its recently launched range of highly reliable bi-directional PLC splitter modules targeted at FTTx PONs, DWDM and CWDM systems, optical cable TV and other outside equipment applications.

Each device (1x4, 1x8 and 1x16, 1x32 and 1x64) is a packaged optical waveguide chip based on patented plasma chemical vapour deposition (P-CVD) technology. The combination of PLC structure and P-CVD process technology provides exceptionally stable optical characteristics and superior reliability compared with fused-fibre biconical taper (FBT) technology. The splitter modules exhibit low insertion loss, low polarisation dependent loss high port uniformity and flat frequency response.
