A family of board-level Internet of Things (IoT) modules and development tools from SensiBLE is available at Mouser Electronics. As part of the agreement, Mouser is stocking the company’s low-power SensiBLE IoT edge module and accompanying SensiBLE development kit with integrated debugger, which enable designers to reduce the length of IoT prototyping cycles through the combination of the module’s embedded IoT software and hardware both provided by STMicroelectronics (ST).

The SensiEDGE module features a suite of sensors, Bluetooth connectivity, and a microcontroller in one of the world’s tiniest system-on-board solutions. The Bluetooth- and FCC/IC-certified module is a combination of four ST Nucleo development boards, with the heart of the module containing the STM32L476RG Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit microcontroller for running the software.

The flexibility of the module offers the opportunity to use it in a design as-is, or switching it out for individual components once volumes increase and the design goes into full-scale production — all without significant rework.

The module also features a host of configurable hardware options that are ideal for IoT applications, including a low-power module for Bluetooth 4.1, a stereo digital microphone, and 4 Mbits of SPI flash.

It offers a variety of onboard sensors for tracking applications, including a 3-axis accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer. Ideal for environmental applications, and it features a relative humidity with temperature sensor, pressure sensor, digital RGB/IR and ambient light sensor with color detection, plus a digital microphone.

Additionally, dedicated apps and a software development kit (SDK) for the iOS and Android enable communication with the SensiBLE module to begin reading sensor values; unique customer apps can also be developed.

The SensiEDGE SensiBLE IoT module is powered using a coin cell battery (which can be extended to a rechargeable battery via minimal changes), mini USB or external power. It is supported by a SensiBLE Development Kit, which features an integrated debugger, Arduino-compatible headers, and PC connectivity. SensiBLE is also fully compatible with ST’s STM32 Nucleo and X-Nucleo ecosystem for rapid development and deployment.

Target IoT applications include battery-powered sensor devices, wearables, smart appliances, medical and fitness trackers, home automation, consumer electronics, retail beacons, and asset trackers.
