Mirics, developer of FlexiTV, the world’s first commercial software-based global TV receiver, today announced that Intel Corporation will deliver global broadcast TV through an upcoming Intel-branded PC Motherboard.
This revolutionary development has been achieved by enhancing Intel’s Desktop Board DH61AG with an integrated dual-tuner digital terrestrial TV mini-card. Mirics will be previewing the technology live at its meeting suite at Computex 2011 in Taipei, May 30th - June 4th, 2011. Intel’s DH61AG Mini-ITX motherboard is designed for multimedia entertainment. The addition of the FlexiTV-powered MC002 mini-card, produced by Yuan High-Tech, enables digital terrestrial TV reception across all global standards via a single product SKU, through Mirics’ smart silicon and software solution. Michelle Johnston, General Manager of Intel’s Channel Platform and Solutions Division, commented: “Consumers are looking to manage and view broadcast television content at any time and the addition of Mirics’ FlexiTV global solution to our small and flexible DH61AG Mini-ITX motherboard is leading the charge on delivering integrated, rich multimedia capabilities at compelling cost points. Demonstrations at Computex 2011 will show reception of live standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) content from terrestrial broadcast sources. Using standard playback software such as Windows Media Center, through the dual-tuner design, users can view and record multiple live TV stations simultaneously on PCs equipped with the motherboard and integrated mini-card. Simon Atkinson, CEO, Mirics said: “This is an exciting breakthrough and a significant technology development. Coupling Intel’s multimedia offering with the Mirics’ solution for global broadcast TV, tied to the motherboard, makes for a compelling package. It is an incredibly attractive proposition for those who want to watch their favourite TV programmes wherever and whenever they want.” Yuan’s FlexiTV-enabled MC002 dual-tuner mini-card solution integrated with Pegatron motherboards based on the DH61AG reference design are sampling now and will be in full production later this summer. Other Mirics-enabled global TV products in a variety of form-factors will also be shown during Computex 2011 in Mirics’ Demo Suite #1136 at the Grand Hyatt Taipei.
