mimoOn, Axis and CommAgility to demo base station reference architectures at MWC 2010
mimoOn, a pioneer in LTE software implementations for programmable radio platforms, Axis Network Technology, a leader in remote radio heads and software defined radios , and CommAgility, a leading manufacturer of signal processing modules for wireless baseband applications, today announced a joint demonstration at MWC Barcelona, for HSPA and LTE base stations. The demo will be at mimoOn's booth: Hall 2, Stand 2B17.
Axis integrated remote radio heads provide a superior software definable platform solution that combines multi-band and multi-mode capabilities with world leading system efficiency. They can simultaneously support 4G LTE and 3G HSPA networks providing an ideal platform for mimoOn's base station software and CommAgility's signal processing hardware.
CommAgility's AMC-3C87F3 is a highly integrated 4G wireless PHY processing and timing module in the popular AdvancedMC form factor. It includes three SFP module sites for Remote Radio Head (RRH) interfaces, a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA and three Texas Instruments multicore DSPs, Gigabit Ethernet and an IDT Serial RapidIO (SRIO) infrastructure, and a GPS receiver with optional holdover for eNodeB timing. It is part of a family of wireless focused AdvancedMC products, with the latest development, to be announced for MWC 2010, providing PHY, MAC and control capability for a complete single sector LTE eNodeB solution.
Next generation networks such as LTE demand high processing capabilities but with optimized and cost-sensitive architectures. By combining mimoOn's advanced LTE software with flexible radio head technology from Axis and MicroTCA-based hardware from CommAgility, we have been able to provide a turnkey solution that will meet the performance and cost targets of base station OEMs and service providers, according to Thomas Kaiser, CEO of mimoOn.
At MWC Barcelona, mimoOn will showcase their advanced LTE PHY implementation running on CommAgility's MicroTCA baseband hardware. The demo will show live streaming video running on 5MHz, 64QAM LTE channels and over onto mimoOn's LTE Test Mobile. Air interface signals will be displayed on a Rohde & Schwarz CMW500 wideband communications tester, proving that the software is robust, system tested, and standards compliant.
