Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today announced that Microsoft’s revolutionary new Arc Touch Mouse uses the Cypress CapSense® solution for the touch scroll strip that lets users navigate documents and Web pages without using the on-screen scroll bar. The CapSense-based scroll wheel delivers a smooth, comfortable navigation experience as opposed to the jerky scrolling that some mechanical wheels provide.
/> Cypress is the worldwide leader in capacitive touch-sensing with the industry’s broadest portfolio. Its PSoC®-based CapSense devices offer unmatched flexibility and integration, addressing a broad range of designs from complex, feature-rich applications to simple button replacement. The easy-to-use solution offers leading noise immunity and water-resistance for reliable operation.

The Arc Touch Mouse was designed to deliver ultimate portability to easily slip into a bag, purse or pocket. It also goes from curved to flat with one simple movement. The Arc Touch Mouse’s touch strip enables consumers to scroll with a flick of a finger. Using the CapSense solution, the strip corresponds to each position and velocity change to give users accurate, controlled scrolling no matter how fast or slow the movement. The strip also has three tap “buttons” for added functionality: page up, page down and the middle click area, which is reprogrammable for whatever mouse function the user needs most. The Arc Touch Mouse is equipped with BlueTrack Technology, letting consumers track on virtually any surface. Two AAA batteries give the Arc Touch Mouse more than six months of battery life, and the two-color battery life indicator lets people know when the power is running low.

“This is an exciting new application for CapSense,” said Dirk Franklin, director of Cypress’s CapSense Business Unit. “We’re pleased to play a role in revolutionizing the mouse with CapSense.”
