Market for electric motorcycles will be worth $12bn by 2025
In a recent report, IDTechEx estimates that by 2025 the market for electric motorcycles will be worth $12bn. This forecast, discussed in the report entitled 'Electric Motorcycles and Three Wheel Electric Vehicles 2015-2025', is almost five times greater than that for e-bikes. Thus, this emerging market is one to be considered by those within the EV sector.
In 2015, Yamaha and BMW are entering the market, while Harley Davidson has recently released a prototype. However, it is small companies such as Zero Motorcycles and Brammo that are receiving orders by demonstrating innovations. Chinese companies are offering maxi-scooters and motorcycles 'at one third of the price'.
