iSLI Students Showcase Sponsored Projects
The Institute for System Level Integration (iSLI) has hosted a conference to provide EngD students with an opportunity to showcase their industry-sponsored work and highlight innovations in their research. The student research engineers put forward diverse presentations and posters which opened up a lively discussion forum covering projects such as automatic coronary artery labelling in 3-D CT images, the potential benefits of using hydrogen as a secondary energy storage medium for a standalone renewable energy power system, low-power keyword activation for speech recognition systems and radar warning receivers.
GuesCEO of iSLI, Tony Harker comments, “The EngD conference has been a triumph, not only are we very proud to highlight our academic achievements particularly in medical, defence and security applications but we are also strengthening the importance of academic co-operation with industry to pioneer and grow new ideas. The event also highlighted the significance of investing in an industry’s future during a period of economic challenge and for that we would like to thank all the EngD sponsors.”
iSLI is the only UK institute to deliver the EngD flagship qualification in electronics design and System Level Integration. Research Engineers on the Engineering Doctorate (EngD) are sponsored by companies for four years to perform PhD-level industrial research on behalf of the company and in keeping with the training programme. Sponsors, from start-ups to large multinationals, own the generated IP and Research Engineers not only graduate with a doctorate, but also with first-rate research skills and hands-on business experience.
