IoT and automotive from STMicroelectronics at electronica
At electronica STMicroelectronics presented many solutions in a variety of applications, such as IoT and automotive. STMicroelectronics showcased a range of connectivity solutions for smart cars, such as in-vehicle infotainment systems, telematics processors and sensors, radio tuners and amplifiers, positioning technologies, secure car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure connectivity solutions.
The in-vehicle infotainment solution from ST can be applied for audio power amplifiers, GNSS, power management, MEMs microphones, sensors, Bluetooth, USB and connectivity, and tuners.
STMicroelectronics offers a broad range of components for developing infotainment moduling displays, highly integrated processors for car audio and radio systems, terrestrial and satelite receivers, GNSS positioning devices, sensors and power amplifiers.
STMicroelectronics offers a solution for the tuner platforms, covering AM/FM phase diversity and digital standards like DAB, DRM, HD radio. Speaking about terrestrial analogue and digital radios, ST offers a portfolio of pin-to-pin compatible receivers, providing flexibility and architectural scalability.
In order to design high-end, scalable, high-quality sound systems, designers can use the wide portfolio of automotive-grade audio amplifiers, like AB, SB, SB-I , class D.
An example of in-vehicle infotainment was showcased by the company Symbio. The infotainment solution, called Symbio Elysian, is based on the Linux OS with software components. This solution is equipped with tuner functions for all radio systems around the world, with rare-view-camera support, vehicle control functions, sound effects and optional navigation. The solution has been implemented Apple Carplay, Android auto, Smart Device Link and Baidu Carlife. The software of the solution also supports future upgrades.
STMicroelectronics presented a portfolio of NFC/RFID readers and tags. The ST25R is a series of high performance HF&NFC reader solutions. These solutions provide features like capacitive wakeup, automotive and antenna tuning. These solutions help to simplify the design process, and optimise the BOM. The applications can be gaming, metering and access control, payment terminals, passport, automotive, consumer and industrial. STMicroelectronics also presented a new family of dynamic NFC tags (ST25DV) compatible with ISO/IEC 15693 and NFC Forum Tag Type 5 standards. These tags are characterised by a quick firmware upgrade via Fast Transfer Mode, which enables batteryless design, a flexible password protection scheme, and high-performance EEPROM. The areas where these tags can be applied are industrial applications, medical, consumer electronics, logistics and asset tracking.
The transceiver (S2-LP) for connectivity of the smart things to the Cloud was presented at electronica 2018. This transceiver is developed for the ISM and SDR frequency bands. This transceiver is characterised by high-end performance and energy efficiency. The energy efficiency ranges from months to years. This transceiver reliably works at long-distance communication applications, can be utilised with the SIGFOX, Wireless M-BUS, 6LowPAN, and IEEE 802.15.4g network standards for IoT applications, connecting smart things to the Cloud.
The transceiver is characterised by low power consumption (600nA in the sleeping mode, 10mA in the transmission mode, and 7mA in the receiving mode), output power is up to +16 dBm , frequency bands are 430-470MHz, and 860-940MHz, contains the on-chip DC/DC converter and linear regulator, has robust CSMA/CA engine based on listen-before-talk systems.
Generally speaking STMicroelectronics has the complete ecosystem for sigfox IoT devices, including S2-LP sub 1GHz transceiver; STM32 32-bit microcontrollers from ULP to high-performance with the set of analogue and connectivity peripherals; a wide range of sensors – LP motion MEMS and environmental sensors for different applications; connectivity solutions like NFC solutions, BlueNRG BLE processor and wireless STM32WB MCU; STSAFE secure element with preconfigured Sigfox ID and keys; and baluns for the S2-LP Sub-1 GHz transceiver, BlueNRG BLE processor and wireless STM32WB MCUs.
