Advantech have announced the selection of Impulse as their first global partner to help promote the Internet of Things within the applied computing industry. The Internet of Things, or IoT, is becoming more prevalent in today’s industrial market offering scalable, future-proofed and cost-effective designs in the next generation of industrial and embedded platforms through universal connectivity of intelligent systems and devices across a corporate industrial network.
Advantech and Impulse are now working to deliver the promise of the IoT together, and as part of this Impulse are set to share our extensive product and system design knowledge with the industrial computing market.

Practical examples of where IoT has slowly grown in the industrial computing sector include the real-time analysis and control of traffic monitoring systems and adjustable speed signage which can be remotely adjusted to reflect the flow of traffic, weather conditions and road conditions to ensure smoother and safer traffic flow.

In addition, monitoring of the actual system’s reliability can be maintained, again remotely, through remote I/O testing of the traffic monitoring system devices. Engineering maintenance resources can then be targeted specifically where and when needed thus reducing time and cost. Another example includes collection and analysis of data in a factory or machine automation system, distributed and scalable analogue and digital I/O devices using a range of wireless and wired technologies ensure data can be acquired and controlled globally on a single platform or cloud server. The days of having localised control rooms can be effectively removed with availability of mobile collection and control devices.

Digital signage is another area where the development of intelligent networked devices, capable of being updated remotely and in real-time depending on certain criteria, ensure the most efficient way of marketing or promoting services and products suitable for the identified audience within that localised marketplace.

In the follow-up from their PR event in July, Advantech highlighted Impulse as a key partner in the delivery of the IoT to their customers in the UK. Our experience in the wide ranging applications involved in the industrial and embedded computing market was the key to Advantech choosing Impulse as one of the authorities in the industry, with vast expertise in providing solutions and systems to many different vertical sectors of the industrial computing world.

Craig Wright, Impulse Operations Director, speaks of our inclusion in this highly important development in Advantech’s future plans:

“I am delighted that Impulse has been chosen to be part of Advantech’s vision for the future development of the Internet of Things in the industrial and embedded market. Impulse has twenty years experience in the applied computing industry and have seen and been part of the recent move towards global intelligent systems in the industrial marketplace whilst maintaining the traditional methodology of industrial computing system design and application.

This extensive knowledge allows us to give first class local product design, development and project support for all our customers whilst utilising the comprehensive range of Advantech eAutomation, embedded and industrial computing products and solutions.

We continue to work closely and effectively with our customers to help achieve their objectives, and with Advantech alongside us, we are confident to continue to provide long-term, cost-effective and reliable products and solutions for our customers’ applications. Impulse believes that the Internet of Things is a gateway to a more efficient and intelligent way of connecting embedded and automation based industrial systems. Advantech clearly share this vision and together we are making the next steps towards 'Enabling an Intelligent Planet'.
