Hexing Electrical Co. and ON Semiconductor to Launch Joint Power Line Communication Lab in China
ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics, and Hexing Electrical Co., a leading energy metering systems and solutions designer, have announced plans to establish a joint power line communication laboratory for metering applications. The companies expressed a shared intention to strengthen their cooperation with a view to optimizing PLC performances for advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems and solutions.
The ON Semiconductor's sophisticated narrowband communication technology and its various advanced functionalities cater to the most advanced metering standards. They will be applied in a range of products manufactured by Hexing Electrical ranging from smart meters, smart acquisition gateways, and smart homes.
The new lab will be located at Hexing Electrical's headquarters in Hangzhou, China, and will benefit from ON Semiconductor’s expertise in power line communication.
PLC communication is based on existing power distribution networks and its signal isn't blocked or weakened by walls, said Roy Chia, ON Semiconductor vice president of Sales for Greater China. That is why many countries and regions have deployed – or have plans to deploy – smart meter systems using automatic remote meter reading using ON Semiconductor PLC solutions.
Hexing has cooperated with ON Semiconductor for many years and the two companies enjoy a solid and long-standing relationship, said Zhang Xiangcheng, vice-general manager of Hexing Electrical Co. Setup of the joint PLC test lab will strengthen these ties even further, and will help Hexing to improve its PLC applications and provide our clients with more advanced and reliable AMI solutions. This will add to our competitive edge and deliver benefits in all of the markets in which we operate.
