Fairchild Semiconductor has been selected by one of China’s largest manufacturers and exporters of household appliances, Midea Group, as its major supplier of inverter solutions for DC air conditioners. Fairchild’s Motion-SPM devices will be deployed in Midea’s innovative Galaxy product family, which consists of a comprehensive line of high-end, mid-end and low-end 180° sine wave control DC inverter air conditioners. Midea selected the devices for their power optimization capabilities and ease of design.
These devices integrate discrete technologies into highly-efficient and reliable modules, and are specifically designed for very compact and high performance AC motor drives and low power inverter-driven applications such as air conditioners and washing machines. System reliability is further enhanced by the integrated under-voltage lock-out and short circuit protection. The high speed built-in HVIC provides optocoupler-less single-supply IGBT gate driving capability that further reduces the overall size of the air conditioners’ inverter system design. Each phase current of inverter can be monitored separately due to the divided negative DC terminals.

The Motion-SPM series features:

* UL Certified No.E209204(SPM27-EA package).
* Very low thermal resistance due to using Direct Bonded Copper (DBC) packaging.
* 600V-30A 3-phase IGBT inverter bridge including control ICs for gate driving and protection.
* Divided negative DC-link terminals for inverter current sensing applications.
* Single-grounded power supply due to built-in HVIC.
* Isolation rating of 2500Vrms/min.

“Midea’s operations adhere to the slogan ‘innovation and technology’. We are committed to becoming the leader in innovation and technology in the air-conditioning industry both here in China and around the world, in places like the United States. We used three criteria when benchmarking for this variable air conditioner, they were technology, product and price,” commented Mr. Wu Wenxin, vice president at Midea.

“We are honored that Midea has selected our Motion-SPM products for its Galaxy range. Within the next few years China is expected to become the world’s largest inverter air conditioner market. We look forward to our continued strategic partnership with the company and to assisting them with the development of further innovations that benefit consumers,” commented Benjamin Tan, Fairchild’s regional vice president of sales, China and South East Asia said. “We are committed to strengthening Fairchild’s leadership position as The Power Franchise® with additional innovative products that enable further energy-efficiency gains for our customers.”
