Fairchild Semiconductor Showcases LED Lighting Solutions at Strategies in Light 2012
At Strategies in Light 2012, February 7-9, 2012, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, Calif., Fairchild Semiconductor, (NYSE: FCS) a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, will demonstrate LED driver applications, including the highly integrated PFC and PWM controllers which allow designers to reduce BOM count, enable smaller lamp sizes, eliminate design complexity, and improve overall lighting efficiency. In booth #705, Fairchild experts will focus on the low power LED lighting applications. Demonstrations will include:
• • The FL7701 Smart Non-isolated Buck LED Driver with power factor correction (PFC). The device uses a digital technique that allows it to automatically detect the AC input voltage condition, allowing it to create a special internal reference signal that results in high power factor correction. The FL7701 will also work from a DC input voltage condition, automatically sensing AC versus DC input voltage conditions. The traditional technique of using a transformer in an MR application incurs additional losses with the transformer conversion; this traditional inefficient method can now be replaced using the FL7701 connected directly to a DC or AC off-line input.
Fairchild Semiconductor provides solutions for all lighting applications including linear fluorescent ballast, compact fluorescent ballast, LED and HID. Our extensive product portfolio ranges from discretes to integrated solutions that contain PFC controllers, ballast control ICs, high voltage gate drivers and MOSFETs. Other solutions, with information available at http://www.fairchildsemi.com/applications/diagrams/lighting.html include:
PSR flyback solutions for LED lighting applications that are <20W: In these designs, small lamp size is critical and cost pressure is high. To address this, Fairchild’s PSR technology provides TRUECURRENT™ technology and distinct IP for leading-edge CV/CC performance in a multi-chip package option (7SOP/DIP) with the MOSFET included (1A/700V VDMOS ).
Fairchild’s single-stage PFC flyback for 20~50W applications: These lighting applications require high power factor in a limited space, plus higher efficiency and reliability than traditional solutions provide. Fairchild provides a CRM PFC PWM controller for single-stage flyback, ideal for 10~50W LED down lights and 20~50W LED L-lights, that provide high efficiency by offering high power factor and low THD performance without adding components thus lowering the BOM count. Additionally, no bulk capacitor is needed, which further extends the system lifetime.
PFC + QR Flyback Technology for <100W applications: Designers are faced with standard solutions that result in high BOM counts, high cost and low system efficiency. To address this, Fairchild provides a QR flyback solution that provides high system efficiency and high reliability, and with the CRM PFC front-end resulting in high power factor and low THD.
LLC half-bridge solutions for <400W: These applications routinely have high BOM counts, high cost and low system efficiency and reliability, as well as design complexity. To address these application challenges, Fairchild’s LLC half-bridge solution is an integrated solution with three chips in one package. The solution features internal MOSFETs with fast recovery body diode (trr=120ns), with the high side gate driver included. The solution offers up to 300kHz operating frequency and pulse skipping for frequency limiting under light load conditions.
With our commitment to energy savings and meeting the most stringent regulations, we have developed innovative products that maximize performance while reducing board space, design complexity and system costs. In addition, our Global Power ResourceSM Center comprised of online tools, FAEs and regional centers staffed by power engineers, is the industry standard for customer design support.
