The EnOcean Alliance today entered its second year and signed up its 100th member company - a significant double milestone. The Alliance was established in April 2008 by Distech Controls, EnOcean, Masco, MK Electric, Omnio and Thermokon. Now, with membership totalling 100 companies in the building services market from 20 different countries, the EnOcean Alliance offers over 350 interoperable products and deployments have reached over 100,000 buildings globally. In the UK new major projects are rolling out for example with Distech Controls, MK Electric and Thermokon.
“These are remarkable landmarks and are testament to all the hard work that our founding promoters and members have put in over the last year towards formalising the unique maintenance-free, no batteries technology as the leading wireless standard for sustainable buildings,” said Graham Martin, Chairman and CEO, EnOcean Alliance.

The core technology of the Alliance is self-powered wireless technology from EnOcean. The innovation in the design of EnOcean technology lies in its ability to detect control commands or measurement data without any external power source or batteries in the sensor unit. Using energy harvesters, the sensors draw energy resources from their environment to transmit signals of an astonishing range. This means EnOcean sensors can work where other wireless technologies cannot. It also removes the need for any maintenance, reduces toxic chemical waste, saves miles of cables, copper and PVC, and lowers installation time and cost.

EnOcean self-powered wireless sensor technology is currently undergoing standardisation by the IEC, the international standards and conformity assessment body for all fields of electrotechnology. At the third members meeting in Berlin from 26th to 28th April, 60 participants from 40 different companies grouped together to work on technology standardisation advancements, continued product interoperability and technology promotion activities. Renowned industry commentator Dr. Jobst Klien from HOCHTIEF Energy Management GmbH was a keynote speaker at the meeting.

At ISH 2009 in Frankfurt members of the Alliance staged a joint showing of the wide-ranging portfolio of EnOcean based interoperable products for heating, air-conditioning, ventilation and energy-efficient building automation.

During Lightfair in New York, 5-7 May 2009, Alliance members again united to confirm their international leadership in wireless controls for architectural and commercial lighting.
