Emerson Network Power today announced that it has joined the HP AllianceONE Partner Program to help increase application performance while reducing complexity for clients. In the first initiative of this membership, Emerson Network Power’s value added distributor Arrow Electronics will integrate Emerson’s new PCI Express media processing accelerator card PCIE-8120 in servers such as the HP ProLiant DL380p.
A single Emerson Network Power PCIE-8120 is capable of transcoding over 7000 bidirectional voice channels from G.711 to G.729A, where a typical commercial Host Media Processing solution running on the server itself is limited to 2000 ports per server. Multiple cards can be added to a single server for even higher performance, enabling users to add high density, highly scalable voice and video processing to network applications, while using less space, less power and at lower cost than the alternative of adding more servers or suffering significantly reduced application performance.

Brian Brown, vice president and general manager of marketing and services for Emerson Network Power’s Embedded Computing business, said: “Emerson Network Power’s innovative media processing solution – the PCIE-8120 card - works with clients’ existing server infrastructure to provide a significantly more effective way to simultaneously improve performance and reduce costs. By joining the HP AllianceONE partner program, we are helping customers simplify and accelerate the deployment of new voice and video services consistent with the HP Converged Infrastructure strategy.”

Werner Schaefer, general manager, worldwide OEM & Telecommunications for Industry Standard Servers & Software, HP, said: “Through HP AllianceONE, Emerson Network Power has the opportunity to leverage tools that will help create competitive advantages for customers and more easily develop and market offerings as part of Emerson’s solution set. The HP ProLiant DL380 is the number one selling server in the world, due in part to the platform’s incredible versatility. HP is pleased that Emerson Network Power’s PCIE-8120 takes advantage of the ProLiant DL380p Gen 8 versatility for both non-NEBS and NEBS telecom environments.”

Brian Armstrong, vice president and general manager, OEM computing solutions, Arrow, said: “As a solution provider for Emerson Network Power, we’re excited about the compelling value and simplicity of this platform that directly meets the needs of our customers who need higher density and robust performance for session border controllers and video transcoding at a cost-effective price point.”

Featuring up to 12 low power Octasic DSPs with embedded voice or video firmware, the Emerson Network Power PCIE-8120 can also transcode over 300 mobile video streams at CIF resolution, and offers support for high definition video resolutions up to 1080p. It is designed for NEBS carrier grade and data center environments, depending on the server enclosure, and so offers a common solution for both enterprise and telecom environments. High density voice and video processing is increasingly in demand for applications such as session border controllers, media gateways/servers or media resource functions, video or content optimization, video communications servers, and interactive voice and video response systems.

In addition to offering the Emerson PCIE-8120 as scalable individual boards, Arrow will offer integrated server platforms to help accelerate customers’ time-to-market and provide a complete application-ready solution. An application note on the Emerson Network Power PCIE-8120 and HP ProLiant DL380p is available to simplify its installation and use.
