For Electronica, RS Components has turned the stand itself into a live demo, using the RS EDP to manage the power to the demo area and to control the counter display. Additional applications on the stand, including the demo of NeuroRobotics’ ‘NeuroArm’ that was integrated into a mobile robot by using the RS EDP, complete the demonstration of how the RS EDP helps design engineers to develop new solutions quickly and cost efficiently.

The EDP embraces a three element concept, including a re-usable baseboard, a combination of up to four CPU Modules and up to four Application Modules. It is the first tool that offers a standard platform where designers can evaluate different microcontroller technologies and applications for prototype development independently from manufacturers.

In the past electronic design engineers would have to purchase a development kit which is specific to one microcontroller and generally not re-usable. As engineers continuously upgrade their equipment to keep up with the fast changing technology landscape, the old development boards are laid to rest. This is not only a complex and expensive undertaking but it also costs the engineer time interfacing the new software and hardware products to existing application circuits.
