Dr. David Burrows has been announced as the new Chair of the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI), the trade association representing the interests of the semiconductor industry in the UK and Ireland. The appointment was announced by CEO Derek Boyd at the NMI’s Annual General Meeting in London.
Burrows, formerly the Vice Chairman of the NMI’s Board of Directors, takes over the Chairmanship from Steve Neill. Dr Burrows is currently Director of Aptina’s UK Imaging Design Centre and is a Visiting Professor and Chair of the Industrial Advisory Board in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bristol.

Making the announcement, Derek Boyd said, “We’re delighted that David has accepted this important post. His outstanding record of leadership and achievement in the microelectronics sector together with his strong links with academia are of real benefit to the NMI and its members. I look forward to working with David and fellow board members to further develop the role of the NMI in the years ahead.”

Dr. Burrows said, “I am honoured to take up the challenge of NMI Chair. Steve Neill has achieved a great deal and he’ll be a hard act to follow. The UK today has a worldwide reputation for innovation and design excellence and the NMI will be doing its utmost to champion the activities and causes for its members long into the future.”
