Cypress Semiconductor announced that semiconductor industry veteran, Kazuyoshi “Kazu” Yamada, has joined Cypress Japan as Vice President, Japan Strategic Accounts. He will report to Hitoshi Yoshizawa, Cypress Vice President and Japan Managing Director. Yamada served in senior leadership roles at NEC’s semiconductor group and at Renesas for more than 33 years. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of the System-on-Chip business unit at Renesas, where he was responsible for ASICs, ASSPs such as USB and MPEG codecs, and synchronous SRAM products. He started his career as an ASIC designer and worked in Silicon Valley for 17 years. Yamada holds BSEE and MSEE degrees from Tokyo City University.
“Kazu brings more than three decades of semiconductor business leadership to Cypress with extensive experience shaping and implementing strategies, and selling a broad range of products from system-on-chip solutions to SRAMs,” said Ben Lee, Cypress Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “I’m confident that his combination of Japan market knowledge and U.S. experience will help Cypress to build upon an already expanding Japan business and to position us for growth over the long haul.”

“I am excited to head up the Cypress strategic account initiative in Japan,” Yamada said. “I am eager to capitalize on a variety of opportunities, particularly with PSoC programmable system-on-chip products, next-generation TrueTouch® Gen4 touchscreen controllers, and the broad portfolio of SRAM and USB products – including Cypress’s recently announced superspeed USB 3.0 solutions. As an observer of Cypress for many years, selling to some of the same markets, I can state with certainty that Cypress is better positioned for success in the Japan market than at any point in its history.”
