55% rise in electronic systems to create a £120bn industry
European Automation has published a slideshare detailing the latest developments of the Electronic Systems Challenges and Opportunities (ESCO) report. The ESCO council, outlined the main objectives to be met by 2020, including a targeted 55% rise in electronic systems to create a £120bn industry, representing 7.1% of British GDP.
The second objective was the creation of an additional 150,000 skilled jobs across the UK.
The areas highlighted for development by ESCO are research and development in industry, innovation, manufacturing, re-shoring, industrial automation and the skills gap. European Automation's industry slideshare presents the mechanisms ESCO has put in place to develop each of these interest areas.
"The ESCO report was highly ambitious in its objectives when it was released in 2013. Luckily for industry, the report and the ESCO council have already prompted major developments in terms of technical innovation, job creation and skills development," enthused Darren Halford, Group Sales Manager, European Automation. "We wanted to illustrate this progress in a way that was as vibrant and interesting as some of the dynamic schemes that are helping industry meet the ESCO targets.
"The UK is a forward-thinking country with a dynamic industry. Every day we find out about innovative technologies and ambitious projects in the realms of IoT and smart factories. The ESCO report kick-started the electronic systems industry, now it's up to resourceful companies and talented individuals to keep the momentum going and achieve the report's objectives."
