2016 European MCU Car Rally winners announced
Renesas Electronics Europe has announced the winners of its MCU Car Rally competition for university students, which was held on 25th February at embedded world 2016 in Nuremberg, Germany. Twenty-four teams from all over Europe, comprising some 120 students supported by their professors, participated in the challenge by each developing a functioning model rally car that included sensors and an RX MCU from Renesas.
First past the post, with a time of 03:19.9 minutes for five full laps, was the car built by the NEUTRINO team from the Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. Second was the VICNAS 2.0 team from the Carlos III University in Madrid, whose model completed five laps in 03:25.5 minutes. The FASTECH 1 Team from Romania’s University of Craiova came in third with a time of 03:50.9 minutes. Prizes for the winners included an iPhone 6, as well as iPad Minis and Amazon vouchers - for every team member. The time capturing system was developed by Renesas’ Platinum Partner AND Technology Research and was based on the new Renesas Synergy Platform.
Cristian-Gyozo Haba, Professor, Technical University of Iasi, commented: “The participation in the Renesas MCU Car Rally and embedded world 2016 was a great experience both for me and my students. My students are very excited about the competition and eager to take part in next year’s event.”
“The MCU Car Rally is a great opportunity to demonstrate to students the effectiveness of different development methods,” said Professor Dr.-Ing. Burkart Voss, Ernst-Abbe Hochschule, Jena, Germany. “It was very impressive to see how the various teams approached the development of their solutions. My students were able to learn a lot from the experience.”
“The second MCU Car Rally was a fantastic experience, not only for students but also for Renesas. We were happy to meet a great new generation of engineers with enthusiasm, commitment and outstanding technical skills. We’ll soon be sending out invitations to European students to participate in next year’s Renesas MCU Car Rally at embedded world 2017, which we are hoping will be as exciting as this year’s,” added Andrea Nuyken, MCU Car Rally Project Manager, Renesas Electronics Europe.
