SMSC announced that the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) networking technology has been selected as part of the infotainment system for the new entry-level Audi A1 model. MOST has been adopted in approximately 95 worldwide vehicle models on the road today.
Audi was among the first adopters of MOST beginning with its high and mid-class line of vehicles and has since played a very active role in advancing the technology and its standardization, said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC's Automotive Information Systems group. Its roll out in Audi's newly created entry level A1 is further proof that the cost, quality and robust performance benefits delivered by the MOST Technology can be scaled to suit all classes of the vehicle spectrum and especially also the entry segment.

MOST multimedia networking technology enables the networking of feature-rich infotainment systems in automobiles by providing the means to distribute multimedia entertainment functions among the various control devices around the car. For example, a CD changer, radio, global positioning system, mobile telephone and DVD player can be established in an efficient ring network and can send crisp, static-free audio signals digitally to the amplifier by utilizing the MOST network.
