SpaceX places $9M follow-on order for Filtronic E-Band SSPAs
Filtronic has announced a follow-up production order of its E-band Solid State Power Amplifier (SSPA) modules as part of its strategic partnership with SpaceX.
The order, valued at $9 million (£7.1 million), underscores the continued demand for Filtronic’s cutting-edge technology, which plays a crucial role in the deployment of SpaceX’s Starlink constellation, proving high-speed, low-latency internet to users around the globe. The order is expected to be fulfilled within the current financial year.
This order is part of Filtronic’s and SpaceX’s strategic partnership, which was established in April 2024. Under this agreement, additional share warrants have been issued as a milestone of the collaboration. The current milestone pertains to Tranche 1, directly linked to the supply of E-band SSPAs. So far, a total of 8,684,844 share warrants have vested, reflecting both company’s ongoing commitment to this partnership.
The SSPAs supplied by Filtronic enhance a low-power Radio Frequency (RF) signal to a higher power level — crucial for higher frequency mmWave bands, where voltage levels are very low. These amplifiers are ideal for both military and commercial use, offering excellent SWAP (small size, lightweight, and high power), making them perfect for both airborne and non-terrestrial applications.
“We are delighted to receive this further order from our partner, SpaceX, as we continue to support the rollout of the Starlink constellation,” said Nat Edington, Chief Executive Officer at Filtronic. “The order demonstrates the continued significant role we are playing in helping SpaceX achieve their mission and will continue to do so over the next five years.”
