Fibocom launched its 5G module FG160 during MWC Barcelona 2022.

FG160 is a high-performance NR Sub-6 module complaint with 3GPP Release16 (R16) standards.

The module delivers enhanced mobile broadband, low latency, and ultra-reliable wireless communications services for the global Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) market.

FWA, for home and business, is a frontrunner in the application of 5G technology, which is a scalable and powerful complement to fixed broadband. Thanks to the broad bandwidth available, 5G FWA can enable high-speed and low-latency connectivity when sharing the network with data-heavy devices.

Supporting NR Carrier Aggregation (CA), Fibocom’s FG160 module optimises 5G user experience with extended coverage, boosted throughput and increased capacity, which is a suitable solution for terminals such as CPE, STB, IPC, ODU, etc. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 modem chipset, Fibocom’s FG160 is a 5G module backward compatible with LTE-TDD, LTE-FDD and WCDMA network standards. The module delivers maximum downlink rates of 3.5Gbps and uplink rates of 900Mbps under 5G, empowering IoT applications with lightening data transmission speeds.

Coming with LGA form factor measuring 41x44x2.75mm, FG160 is compatible with Fibocom’s 5G module FG150, which allows customers to migrate between different products, reducing investment concerns. The Fibocom FG160 module supports OpenCPU, optimising cost-performance and power consumption. With OpenCPU, FG160 can be developed into an ideal FWA solution, enabling 160MHz bandwidth, 4096 QAM as well as Wi-Fi 6E.

Along with abundant functionalities such as digital audio, VoLTE and VoNR, the Fibocom FG160 module supports multi-constellation GNSS receiver, including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou,QZSS and Galileo, which provides high-performance positioning and navigation while greatly simplifies end product design. Meanwhile, it supports multiple operating systems (Linux/ Android/ Windows), various Internet protocols as well as industry-standard interfaces (USIM, USB 3.1/3.0/2.0, PCIe 4.0 and I2S), allowing much flexibility and ease of integration for customer's deployment.

At present, the engineering samples of FG160-NA are available for product testing and development. Fibocom’s R16-compliant module portfolio also includes the FM160 series, the commercial samples of which are ready in February, 2022. With M.2 form factor, FM160 is the first 3GPP R16-compliant module receiving ANATEL certification.

“Fibocom is pleased to introduce the R16-compliant 5G module FG160. The module offers excellent capabilities in terms of network coverage, network reliability, power consumption as well as data rate, helping to proliferate the deployment of 5G across all vertical industries,” said Jason Zhu, General Manager of IoT Product Line, Fibocom.
